You're reading: Expert: Gas contracts between Kyiv and Moscow unlikely to be revised

Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Center Volodymyr Omelchenko has said he doubts that gas contracts between Ukraine and Russia will be revised.

“The current gas contract fully meets the interests of Russia, and it will continue to use it to persuade Ukraine to join the Customs Union. Russia has no incentive to agree to the revision of this contract, and I don’t see the opportunity today to review this contract through agreements,” he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Monday.

Omelchenko said that the Ukrainian government had initially chosen the wrong strategy for holding negotiations with Russia by refusing to seek the review of the contract through the courts.
