You're reading: Expert: Numerous candidates to run for presidency in 2015, charismatic leader yet to appear

Experts forecast that the 2015 presidential election campaign in Ukraine will be unprecedented in terms of number of candidates, among whom there will be former head of the presidential administration of Ukraine (2002-2005), Viktor Medvedchuk.

“It will be an unprecedented campaign in terms of number of presidential candidates,” Head of the Institute for Development of Political Technology PolitPR Ukraine Dmytro Raimov said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Director of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics Kostiantyn Bondarenko, in the remaining two years before the presidential election, the main candidates will form their images.

The expert said that Arseniy Yatseniuk, Vitali Klitschko, Oleh Tiahnybok, “and even Petro Symonenko” would lead the presidential campaign.

Raimov agreed with Bondarenko’s opinion.

He also said that former leader of the Socialist Party of Ukraine Oleksandr Moroz and Ukrainian President (2005-2010) Viktor Yuschenko, as well as newly elected people’s deputy Petro Poroshenko will also run for presidency.

“Medvedchuk will be the next politician that will for sure run for presidency, and we already can start watching this campaign,” Raimov said.

According to him, Medvedchuk’s project in 2015 may become the project that will draw votes of people that are going to vote against all candidates.

Political scientist, Doctor of Political Sciences Hanna Malkina assumed that Medvedchuk would present an old “Kremlin-style project.”

At the same time, she said that today there is no charismatic leader in Ukraine that could run for the presidency in 2015.

“And no one knows whether such a leader will appear by [the time of] the presidential election campaign,” the expert said.
