Experts: Ukraine's non-aligned status improved relations only with Russia

Print version
Nov. 21, 2011, 1:57 p.m. | Ukraine — by Interfax-Ukraine
The declaration by Ukraine of its non-aligned state has not improved the situation in key foreign policy areas, except for relations with Russia, according to a survey of experts conducted by the Razumkov Center, the Mirror Weekly, Ukraine publication has reported. Most experts said that this step had not strengthened the security of the country, had not improved its image, had not strengthened Ukraine's influence on ensuring security in Europe, and had not contributed to the development of relations with the EU and the United States.

According to experts, the situation was improved only in relations with Russia.

Experts split in their opinion on the domestic political stability.

The survey of experts was conducted by the Razumkov Center on Oct. 10-14, 2011.

The center interviewed 80 experts - people's deputies, representatives of central and regional government agencies, public and private research institutions in Kyiv and Ukrainian regions, and reporters.

These so called experts are NATO apologists. Ukraine's neutral free status like that of Norway should be heralded and applauded. It maintained the status quo. NATO should be disbanded and a Truly European Security Organisation, one that includes Russia and Ukraine, should be formed.

HATO is a terrorist organisation that is used as the bully boy henchmen for the USA. It is not an open democratic alliance. Where were the weapons of mass destruction that Tony Blair assured us existed n Iraq? and lets not forget Kosovo. NATO is outdated in its current form. Europe needs a European security organisation. How is it that the US is setting up missile bases in Europe not under NATO control? Ukraine is not even in the US neighbourhood or on the same continent \, NATO has started more wars then any other organisation. Its acts unilaterally. The cold war is over. The EU needs to take responsibility for its own security and stop being the US's bytch.

Oh really? Do you even know what a terrorist is? You should because your country has a wealth of experience in supporting and equiping terrorist organizations. The only people who think NATO is outdated is the leadership of Russia and losers like you.

Have you ever considered why some former Soviet republics and all of Moscow`s former Warsaw Pact allies joined NATO? Apparently they did not have any fond memories of life under the boot of Moscow. Joining NATO provided them with assurance that Russian thugs would never again despoil their countries. For them liberation by the Red Army during world war 2 was just another brutal occupation. The Red Army liberated no one. Nazi tyranny was simply replaced by Soviet tyranny.

yes because they were told they had to in order to become EU member states. If a referendum was held today most if not all EU states would support the formation of a independent EU security organisation. NATO is a US puppet terrorist organisation designed to do the US's bidding.

There is neither an academic nor an international legal consensus regarding the proper definition of the word "terrorism".[1][2] Various legal systems and government agencies use different definitions of "terrorism". Moreover, the international community has been slow to formulate a universally agreed upon, legally binding definition of this crime. These difficulties arise from the fact that the term "terrorism" is politically and emotionally charged.[3]

Bit by all accounts an organisation that used force to impose its political will against a sovereign state is a terrorist organisation.

NATO often acts alone without UN sanction and then has to call in the UN to pick up the pieces and repair the damage inflicted buy NATO forces. Often the decision of NATO are dictated to by US policy. NATO should be disbanded and a modern European Security Organisation created in its place.

Sorry should have read Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Ukraine all are not members of NATO.

Norway is a NATO member. That said this report is nonsense because not only was Ukraine not ready for NATO membership there was strong opposition inside NATO to admitting Ukraine even if it had been ready.Ukraine is ready for CSTO membership and would be admitted if it chose that path.No matter which path is chosen good relations with all are a must for Ukraine.

Get your facts straight! Norway was one of the original members of Norway. Switzerland has been able to remain neutral because it is surrounded by friendly countries all of which are NATO members except for neutral (but also friendly) Austria and Liechtenstein.

Sweden and Finland are neutral but both cooperate closely with NATO and even participate in NATO training. In a dust up with Russia their is no question of who they will side with.

Norway is not a member of the EU but is a signatory of NATO that still does not justify NATO continued existence and dominance by the USA. Europe needs a truly European Security Organisation one that is not dominated by the USA. If a referendum was held to day most European States would vote against NATO in its current form.

The Razumkov Center has excellent polling methods that are very professional.

When they speak to experts...these are top of the line people whose opinions matter and influence foreign observers.

That is why they could not name or quite them. I guess if you want the answer you want you ask the right experts. They polling is always screwed in a particular direction. Go back and look at the last three to four elections.

There already is a visa free travel regime with Russia and Belarus, has been since the USSR broke up in 1991.
