Female movement FEMEN proposes introduction of criminal responsibility for the use of sex industry services, Hanna Hotsul, leader of the movement, told a press conference at the Ukrainian News press center.
"We suggest introduction of punishment for a man resorting to prostitute services. Prostitution is unlawful in this country, but a prostitute shoulders responsibility, when the one using her services does not. That is why we propose making a client accountable, too, which will help us uncover sex tourists," she said.
FEMEN also proposes deportation of foreigners who were caught in sex tourism, and prohibiting them from entering Ukraine for a certain period of time.
Beside this, Hotsul says, it is necessary to toughen responsibility for pandering, which currently is punished with conditional sentences.
She noted that the movement is not cooperating with political forces, but intends to stage different actions to make the authorities pay attention to the problem of sex tourism and prostitution, which must be settled at the legislative level.
FEMEN is the organization of young women from Kyiv oriented at students and focused on fight with sex tourism and prostitution in Ukraine.

Prostitution is a tough issue. It has been around probably almost forever so it is quite doubtful it will be removed. Personally, I believe it should be legalized and licensed with regular medical checks and taken out of the hands of the mafia.
One of the bigger problems in Ukraine is that so many women cannot earn livable wages and need to resort to this. The govt must find a way to help their people earn a livable wage.
Of course rising prostitution is due to minimal incomes. But we all now the dark sides of prostituion, health disasters, abuse, violence, even more. Prostitution is hard to control, but it should be. It may be really hard to banish it, probably impossible, but it is clear, even if it is legalized you have masses of illegal sex workers, without rights, without hope, without didnity. So cutting the business down by prohibiting it by law cannot be 100% succesful, but it may prevent a prevalence of this economic branch. I know it's like the fight aginst Hydra, but isn't it better to cut 8 heads off the Hydra to be able to control the monster?
