You're reading: Financing of healthcare in 2015 budget could be cut by 8 percent

A draft law on the national budget of Ukraine for 2015 foresees the financing of the healthcare sector in the amount of Hr 51.2 billion, which is 8 percent down on the target for 2014, acting health minister Vasyl Lazoryshynets said at a meeting in the Health Ministry on Oct. 17.

“It is planned that the expenses on healthcare for 2015 are Hr 51.2 billion, which is Hr 4.4 billion or 8 percent less than the target for 2014. This is not taking into account inflation and the tax imposed on medicines and medical products,” he said.

In addition, Lazoryshynets said that the state programs are financed by no more than 40-50 percent of the need, and salaries of medical workers are among the lowest in the country.

“Judges, taxmen and educators could have larger wages which are 20-30 percent more than medical workers have. The average wage in the healthcare sector is Hr 2,394,” he said.

Lazoryshynets said that if medical associations and trade unions are not silent and protect our interests, some changes could be seen.

He said that the resources allocated by the state should be used effectively.
