You're reading: Firefighters unable to access Donetsk blaze as attacks continue

Heavy weapons fire was heard in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, as of 12.30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, the city administration said on its Web site.

“A plume of black smoke is rising in the northern part of the city. It can be seen from many districts. A fire has broken out in the Putylivka neighborhood. However, firefighters are unable to reach the site of the blaze due to armed clashes,” it said.

The city’s infrastructure and public transport are functioning as usual, it said.
