Kremenchuk – Fish are dying en masse in the River Dnipro near Kremenchuk (Poltava region) because of the heat, Kremenchuk Deputy Mayor Viktor Kalashnikov told reporters on Thursday, Aug 2.

He said that this was due to the fact that the level of oxygen in the
water had significantly dropped – to 2.57 units, with the norm being 6.

“We have addressed the State Agency for Water Resources so that the
Kremenchuk hydroelectric power station increases the discharge of water.
This will help increase the amount of oxygen in the water,” he said.

The vice-mayor noted that the quality of drinking water in Kremenchuk
currently corresponded to the regulations and that the experts from the
sanitary station and the city water supply service were monitoring
compliance with them.
