A man who stripped naked on top of a statue of Prince George in central London is a citizen of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.
"According to British police, the Ukrainian nationality of Dan Motrescu, a man who was arrested in London on November 23, has been confirmed. He was carrying a Ukrainian passport when he was arrested," Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a briefing on Tuesday.
He said that the man was accused of disturbing public order under local laws, as well as possessing an offensive weapon in public and causing criminal damage to property. In addition, according to the Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian was charged with illegally staying in the UK since December 2007.
"During his detention, Motrescu refused to accept consular assistance, and he did not ask for the assistance of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission," Dykusarov said.
Earlier reports in the British media said that on November 23, a Ukrainian homeless man stripped naked on top of the statue of Prince George in central London and was arrested by the police for indecent behavior.
