You're reading: Foreign Ministry: EP’s resolution on Ukraine confirms EU’s readiness to intensify cooperation with Kyiv

The adoption of the resolution on Ukraine by the European Parliament (EP) showed that the EU institutions have a consolidated vision of readiness for further deepening of cooperation with Ukraine, and particularly for the signing of the Association Agreement, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has stated.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry supports the EP’s call for further simplification of the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.

“In connection with this, it is important that the EP as soon as
possible finish all of the procedures necessary for the ratification of
amendments to the [EU-Ukraine] Visa Facilitation Agreement that was
signed in July 2012,” reads the ministry’s statement.

In addition, Ukraine hopes that the EP will consider amendments to
the Schengen Borders Code without further delays. This will allow the
country to continue intensifying cooperation with the EU on the
introduction of joint border controls in order to develop human
contacts.

The ministry’s statement also reads that Ukraine pays attention to
the conclusions of the international observers, including the EP’s
mission, on the results of the monitoring of the parliamentary elections
in Ukraine that were held on October 28, 2012. The Foreign Ministry
noted that recommendations in the final report of the OSCE Office for
Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which will be published soon,
will be taken into account in the process of reforming the election
legislation of Ukraine in order to streamline it with the highest
international standards.

“Our further effective interaction with the European Union will play a
key role in the context of further comprehensive reform implementation
in Ukraine, particularly in the sphere of the supremacy of law.
Therefore, we confirm our readiness for further cooperation with the
mission of the EP’s envoys Aleksander Kwasniewski and Pat Cox,” reads
the Foreign Ministry’s statement.
