The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has welcomed a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Thursday 17  that expressed unequivocal support for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of Ukraine, as well as the country's right to a free European choice.

‘A European Parliament resolution calls things by their right names – from the condemnation of Russia’s ‘undeclared hybrid war’ against Ukraine to the statement that the declared ceasefire is constantly violated by Russian troops and terrorists, and is also used to regroup and build up potential,’ the ministry’s policy and communications department reported.

The ministry noted the importance of the fact that ‘despite politically motivated trade restrictions imposed by Russia against the EU, the European Parliament calls for a further strengthening of pressure on Russia and confirms the position on the non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and attempts to form quasi-formations in Donbas.’

‘We call on Russia to listen to the signals of the European Parliament. According to the resolution, relations between the EU and Russia will return to normal only when Russia respects the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Ukraine,’ the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry also thanked the European Parliament, which in its new composition confirmed the EU membership prospects of Ukraine in accordance with Article 49 of the EU Treaty.
