Ukrainian citizens belonging to the crew of the Amsterdam Bridge container ship were not injured as a result of a fire that broke out onboard, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.
"According to the report of Consulate General of Ukraine in Hamburg, as a result of the fire on the Amsterdam Bridge, that happened near the Indian coast on September 9, none of the Ukrainian crew were injured," Foreign Spokesman of Ukraine Oleksandr Dykusarov said.
According to him, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Hamburg by order of the ministry, is in touch with the company that owns the ship. According to information received from the company, the fire occurred near port Nhava Sheva (India) on September 9.
Twenty people were on board, including citizens of Ukraine, Poland and the Philippines, and probably India. The cause of the fire is still being established, but it is thought to have broken out in one of the containers.
"The members of the crew remain on board in a safe area. Their relatives were informed about the accident, and now the ship is near the port of Nhava Sheva near Mumbai," Dykusarov said.
The ship was carrying approximately 1,500 containers from India to Sri Lanka to Colombo harbour.
"A representative of the company that owns the ship should depart to Mumbai to resolve all of the current issues. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Hamburg and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry are monitoring the situation," Dykusarov said.
