You're reading: Foreign Ministry says Russia switched from clandestine warfare to open armed invasion of Ukraine

Kyiv has declared a formal protest to Moscow over the shelling of Ukrainian troops from Russian checkpoints, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis has said.

“Russian military are continuing to shell the roadblocks of the ATO forces, cities and public transport. Ukraine is continuing to record instances of violation of its airspace, and the accumulation of armored vehicles and artillery systems of the Russian Armed Forces in its eastern regions is continuing,” he said at a news conference in Kyiv on Sept. 2.

“The situation in the east of Ukraine has changed radically over the past week. Russia has switched from clandestine warfare to an open armed invasion of the Ukrainian territory,” Perebyinis said.

At least four battalion tactical groups of the Russian Armed Forces are acting in Ukraine, he said.

“We view this as a blatant act of aggression. In this situation, Ukraine will take all possible measures to exercise its inalienable right to defense, including in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” he said.

Ukraine expects the international democratic community to provide efficient assistance to it, he said.
