You're reading: Foreign Ministry: Teixeira not in position to criticize Ukrainian authorities

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine has said that the head of the European Union's Delegation to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira is serving his last days in the office and therefore his views on the political situation in Ukraine, stated in an interview with the Ukrayinska Pravda online publication, should not worry the Ukrainian authorities.

“As a rule, foreign ambassadors, who are in the same status as Mr. Teixeira, … do not give ambitious interviews and loud assessments of the situation in the country where they are staying last few days. Generally speaking, at this point, Mr. Teixeira us is no longer an ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, so his opinion should worry the Republic of Cape Verde, rather than citizens and authorities in Ukraine,” director of the Information Policy Department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh Voloshyn told Interfax-Ukraine.

He also recalled that at the end of the week Teixeira would leave Ukraine to take up the post of the EU ambassador to Cape Verde.

As reported, in an interview with the Ukrayinska Pravda Internet publication posted on Thursday, the ambassador spoke about the political situation in Ukraine, the relations with the EU and Russia, the new Ukrainian electoral law, and the situation around former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
