You're reading: Foreign Ministry to use state funds for Holodomor memorial in Washington

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procedure for using state budget funds to implement measures on maintaining contacts with Ukrainians living abroad, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on June 29.

According to the press service, a relevant resolution is dated June 22. The resolution was drawn up by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to fulfill the provisions of the Budget Code of Ukraine of July 8, 2010.

The resolution will be implemented at the expense of and within the funds approved in the state budget for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry under the program entitled "Measures on Maintaining Contacts with Ukrainians Living outside Ukraine."

The main objective of the document is to determine the procedure and spheres of the use of funds under this budget program. First of all, the funds will be used for the production of the forms of certificates for Ukrainians living abroad and the construction of a memorial plaque to the victims of Holodomor (Famine) of 1932-1933 in Ukraine in the city of Washington, the United States.

On May 25, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed the draft resolution, under which some UAH 4 million in budget funds is to be allocated to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry for the construction of the memorial plaque in Washington.
