A Ukrainian citizen has been shot by a Russian in Madrid, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

“According to the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain, the Ukrainian is currently in hospital, and the attacker is a Russian citizen who was detained by local police,” Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Information Policy Department Vasyl Zvarych said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He added that the Ukrainian sustained a gunshot wound on June 27. A criminal case has currently been opened and the investigation is underway, he said.

Zvarych said that Ukraine’s consul regularly visits the patient and oversees the course of the investigation into this case.
