The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has welcomed the new head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Jan Tombinski on Monday.

“It is meaningful that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has
found it possible to accept credentials from Mr. Tombinski just a few
days after the arrival of the ambassador to Kyiv. This shows that the
Ukrainian authorities are very interested in deepening cooperation with
the EU in general, and with its leadership, in particular,” Director of
the Information Policy Department the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleh
Voloshyn said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

According to him, the Foreign Ministry and other government agencies
of Ukraine anticipate very close and constructive cooperation with the
new ambassador.

“We hope that he, as a representative of Ukraine to the EU, will
assist in rapprochement of both parties in a range of issues and
strongly help the European integration of our country,” the diplomat
said.

Prior to this appointment, Tombinski served as Ambassador of Poland to the EU.

The previous head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Jose Manuel Pinto
Teixeira, was appointed to a similar position in Cape Verde.
