Four judges of Ukraine's Constitutional Court have been interrogated as part of an investigation into unlawful seizure of power, however, no charges have been brought against them, according to a representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office.

“As for the case opened on charges of ‘unlawful seizure of power, the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine] is investigating the fact that Constitutional Court judges issued an unlawful ruling, which abetted the usurpation of power. The judges are currently being questioned. Four judges have already been interrogated. But I cannot disclose their names. No charges have been brought against any of them,” Yuriy Sevruk, who heads the criminal cases supervision department of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, said at a press briefing in Kyiv on May 26.

An investigation continues, Sevruk said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office is currently conducting a similar investigation.

The Constitutional Court has adjourned its proceedings intended to assess the constitutionality of several principles of Ukraine’s lustration law after a group of parliamentarians demanded the resignation of seven Constitutional Court judges who adopted the decision to cancel the country’s political reform of 2004 and return to the 1996 Constitution.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, investigators have effectively managed to prove that the Constitutional Court judges’ decision to amend the Ukrainian Constitution in 2010 was unlawful.
