You're reading: Freight train derails in Sumy region

Twenty-seven cars of a freight train transporting construction materials, food and mineral fertilizers derailed near the village of Skriahivka, Trostianets district, Sumy region, on Jan. 28, the press service of the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry reported on Sunday morning.

The accident, which did not result in any injuries, occurred at the Skriahivka-Boromlia route of Pivdenna Railways at 18.55.

According to the report, the train consisted of 43 wagons. Several wagons overturned, and the length of the damaged section of track is being determined.

Rail traffic has been switched to another route through the Bakhmach station (Chernihiv region) and the Romodan station (Poltava region).

The cause of the derailment is being established.
