The work of the EU Police Mission in Ukraine, as a part of the joint security and defense policy, will help to return the trust of the people in the state, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has said.

In June the EU foreign chiefs agreed to establish a joint mission in
the frames of security and defense policy with the intention of sending
it to Ukraine in summer, he said in Brussels on July 8 when opening a
high level meeting to coordinate international support for Ukraine.

Fule said he is sure that this mission, which consists of police and
judicial systems’ professionals, will help Ukrainian security forces to
improve governance so that they match the European standards, as well as
favor the improvement of the rule of law, the protection of human
rights and a general democratic supervision over the work of the law
enforcement agencies.

Fule said that this would help to raise the public’s trust in state institutions.
