EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has called on the Ukrainian authorities to make more effort to achieve a positive decision of the EU Council on the signing of the Association Agreement, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's information policy department has reported.

The commissioner said this at a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara in Luxembourg on Monday.

“Fule spoke about the results of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, during which the foreign ministers of the EU member states noted the progress made by the Ukrainian side in the implementation of the criteria specified in the EU Council conclusions of December 10, 2012. In this regard, Fule called on the Ukrainian authorities to make additional effort to ensure a positive decision of the EU Council on November 18 regarding the signing of the Association Agreement,” reads the statement.

The meeting participants also discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius.

“Kozhara assured the commissioner that Ukraine’s leadership is decisively ready to ensure there is further tangible progress in the fulfillment of the tasks set with a view to the signing and provisional application of the Association Agreement with the EU,” reads the statement.
