Gas consumption by heat supply companies during the heating season should be cut by some 30 percent in all oblasts, Vice Prime Minister and Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Minister Volodymyr Hroisman has said.

“At the today’s meeting of the crisis energy office we’ve discussed plans for the reduction of natural gas consumption by heat supply companies for the period of the 2014/15 heating season by 30 percent that were drawn up by all the regions of Ukraine due to the stoppage of gas supplies from Russia,” the press service of Hroisman reported on Aug. 20.

Hroisman said that the organization of measures on energy saving in each oblast, at each enterprise, should not be the fulfillment of an order from the top.

“We all know how the orders are fulfilled. This should be an aware desire to save resources, and we should work at the local level,” he said.

“In general, taking into account the plans on the reduction of gas consumption received from the regions, we meet the gas limits given by the state. A certain region could save over 30 percent and another region could save less. Now we’re monitoring to understand what regions could fulfill the plans and what regions could do even more. We have a task to clear out the realistic possibilities of each region to reach real saving,” the vice prime minister said.
