Ukraine continues boosting gas stocks in its underground storage facilities, boosting then by another 876,000 cubic meters in a week.

According to data from Gas Storage Europe (GSE), if as of May 21, 2013 10.881 billion cubic meters stored in the underground storage facilities of public joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz, as of May 28, 2013 the stocks grew by 8.1 percent or 876,000 cubic meters, to 11.757 billion cubic meters.

Thus, stocks in the Ukrtransgaz’s underground storage facilities from April1 to May 28, 2014 had grown by 63.2 percent or 4.555 billion cubic meters.

Earlier Ukrainian Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Didenko said Ukraine might not import natural gas in the summer months and could use domestically produced gas for its own consumption.

As reported, national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy has joined the Transparency Platform (AGSI+) by the standards of the European Storage System Operators (GSE) and will report on gas volumes in its underground storage facilities on the weekly basis.

Marketable gas reserves at Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities as of December 31, 2013 amounted to 14.765 billion cubic meters, in particular at Ukrtransgaz – 13.952 billion cubic meters, Chornomornaftogaz – 813 million cubic meters.

Ukraine in 2013 pumped 11.635 billion cubic meters gas into underground gas storage facilities. The taking of natural gas in 2013 exceeded pumping by 8.9 percent (by 1.03 billion cubic meters), amounting to 12.665 billion cubic meters. In particular, 12.328 billion cubic meters was taken from Ukrtransgaz, and 337 million cubic meters from Chornomornaftogaz.

Ukraine has 13 underground gas storage facilities with a total active capacity of more than 31.95 billion cubic meters. 12 facilities and the system of trunk gas pipelines are operated by Ukrtransgaz (30.95 billion cubic meters), another storage facility (one billion cubic meters) – Chornomornaftogaz.

After the annexation of Crimea by Russia, Naftogaz Ukrainy since March 14, 2014 has not been receiving daily operational information about the production, transportation and use of natural gas, oil and condensate from Chornomornaftogaz.
