You're reading: Gas talks begin between Russia, Ukraine, EU

Moscow - Gas talks have begun in Brussels between Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Vladimir Demchishin and the vice president of the European Commission (EC) for energy, Maros Sefcovic, an Interfax correspondent reported from the EC's office.

When he arrived to the talks, Novak told reporters that the $15 million prepayment that Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy made to Gazprom on March 19 covered enough gas until the end of next week: “through March 28, inclusive.”

The so-called “winter package” of gas agreements between Naftogaz and Gazprom expires on April 1.

The meeting is set to cover the terms of gas shipments starting April 1.
