Moscow - Naftogaz Ukrainy has not paid for June gas supplies by the deadline stated by the contract and its debt to Russia's Gazprom has now mounted to $5.296 billion, Gazprom said.
The amount assumes a gas price of $485.5 per thousand cu million in the second quarter of 2014.
The Russian Central Fuel and Energy Dispatch Center (CDU TEK) said Ukraine received 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas in the first 15 days of June, before prepayment for gas supplies was introduced.
“The deadline for June payment passed yesterday, and once again we have not received money from Naftogaz. As a result, Ukraine’s debt to Gazprom for 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas for the period June 1-16 is $838 million. The overall debt is a gigantic $5.296 billion. In total, 11.535 billion cubic meters of Russian gas has still not been paid for. This is a huge volume, the same amount that Russia supplies to Poland each year. Ukraine’s reluctance not to pay for Russian gas in principle is becoming chronic, and once more shows that the switch to prepayment, stipulated by the terms of the contract, was the only correct decision,” Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told Interfax reporters.
