Kharkiv – Doctors from the German Charite Clinic think that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko cannot be taken to court due to her poor health state, the ex-premier's defense lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko has said.

“German doctors have made an official statement – they don’t understand the Ukrainian doctors’ statements saying that Yulia Volodymyrivna Tymoshenko’s state of health is good enough for her to be taken to court. I have a copy of the German doctors’ letter and they don’t understand what they [the Ukrainian doctors] are talking about. First of all, the issue has never been discussed with the other side, secondly, the state of health of Yulia Tymoshenko does not allow her to move on her own and she cannot be taken to court,” Vlasenko told journalists on Wednesday near Kharkiv-based Central Clinical Hospital No. 5, where Tymoshenko is undergoing treatment.

As reported, earlier Chief of Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 Mykhailo Afanasyev said that the international medical commission came to a conclusion that there is no medical contra-indications to taking the ex-premier to court. At the same time, he stressed that the judge, and not doctors, will decide whether Tymoshenko can be taken to court or not.

The next hearing of the criminal case against Tymoshenko on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) Corporation is scheduled for January 18.
