German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has expressed the hope that Ukraine, which is now at a historic crossroads, will make its choice in favor of European integration.

“I see Ukraine as an integral part of Europe and as a bridge between East and West. Ukraine is now at a historic crossroads, and I would like to see as it decides to go to Europe,” he told reporters in Kyiv on Friday, June 21.

The minister noted the progress in Ukraine’s preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. However, he stressed that Ukraine still has much to do in the reforms process, in particular in the legal and judicial fields.

“I hope that the Association Agreement will be signed this autumn, but the European community exists only on the basis of common values,” Westerwelle said.
