Berlin - The agreeing of the price of gas supplies in the winter period by Russia and Ukraine is a signal to the de-escalation of the situation in Ukraine, an official representative of the German government, Georg Streiter, said on Oct. 20.

The German government considers that the achievement of reliable agreements between Ukraine and Russia as a clear signal to the de-escalation and desire of the sides to reach stability, he said at a briefing in Berlin.

After talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Milan late last week, it emerged that Russia and Ukraine accepted the price at $385 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Germany called on the practical realization of the interim agreement on gas by the end of this week.
