You're reading: Germany to complete ratification of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by next summer

Germany will start the process of the ratification of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine in November and plans to complete the process by summer 2015, Gunther Krichbaum (CDU), who chairs the committee on EU affairs in the Bundestag, said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“Germany will start the process of the ratification in November and complete it next summer,” he said.

He also noted that the ratification of the Association Agreement by other EU member countries would take several months, as “political processes considerably differ in the EU member states.”

“But there is no way back, the ratification process has now become irreversible,” he added.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin earlier said that the Slovak parliament would consider the issue of Association Agreement ratification by the end of this week.

Klimkin also reported that the ratification of the agreement by several EU member states is scheduled until the end of September 2014. However, he didn’t name these countries, adding that this is “in the competence of each of these countries.”

“Some my colleagues – foreign ministers – promised that it would be quicker than usual,” the minister added.
