You're reading: Glazyev: Russia-Ukraine gas transportation consortium not possible

A Russia-Ukraine gas transportation consortium is not an option any longer, Russian presidential advisor Sergei Glazyev said.

“Plans to create a gas transportation consortium of Russia and
Ukraine, which could have practically halved Russian gas prices, have
failed. It was possible to implement them almost a year ago,” Glazyev
said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 channel on Tuesday.

The reason is the Ukrainian signing of the European Energy Community
accord, which binds it “to abide by European energy regulations, the
so-called Third Energy Package,” he said.

“Joint investment in this project is no longer of interest to Gazprom,” Glazyev said.

“The gas transportation consortium is now impossible because in this
case Gazprom, a consortium member, will be unable to deliver its own
gas. That is, Ukraine’s involvement in the European Energy Community
denies Gazprom the possibility of being a gas transportation consortium
member and a gas supplier at the same time,” the advisor explained.

Russia “has repeatedly urged Kyiv to drop out of the European Energy Community, which has given it nothing,” he said.

“We told them they forced Gazprom to build bypasses under neutral jurisdictions,” Glazyev said.

“There will be nothing but losses” for Ukraine, he added.
