The Cabinet of Ministers has registered a draft law providing for the establishment of state-owned enterprise Ukraine Tomorrow foreign broadcasting company.

Bill No. 2334 on the foreign broadcasting system of Ukraine was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on July 13.

The purpose of creating the broadcasting company is to meet the information needs of foreign audiences, especially Ukrainians abroad, as well as the protection of national interests outside Ukraine and the formation and support of the positive image of the country in the world.

The Foreign Broadcasting Company of Ukraine is to be established by the government on the basis of state TV and radio company World Service Ukrainian Television and Radio Broadcasting and Banking Television LLC and will be managed by the central executive authority responsible for information independence (the Ministry of Information Policy).

The draft law prohibits the interference of state and self-governance authorities in the company’s activities in order to establish censorship and undue influence on the content of information broadcast by the company.

The draft law also suggests that programs should be created in the Ukrainian language, as well as “other languages depending on the feasibility of using the language to achieve the goal of the company.”
