You're reading: Government to spend Hr 180 million on coal mines construction

The Verkhovna Rada has reduced direct subsidies to coal companies by Hr 180 million, redirecting these funds for financing the construction of mines.

Some 269 lawmakers voted for the adoption of bill No. 4980 (authored by Viktor Turmanov, Anatoliy Honcharov).

According to an explanatory note to the document, first of all, the
funds will be used to pay for the maintenance of objects of newly built
mine Novovolynska No. 10 in a safe state: ventilation, drainage, lifts,
the boiler room (the cost of these items is about Hr 4-4.5 million per
month), as well as the protection of surface properties being under
construction.

Following the adoption of the law, costs for the public maintenance
of mining companies in 2014 will be reduced from the previously planned Hr 12.168 billion to Hr 11.988 billion.

As reported, initially the national budget for 2014 did not foresee
funds for financing the construction and re-equipment of coal and peat
extraction companies.
