Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has ordered Interior Minister Anatoliy Mohyliov and Transport and Communications Minister Kostiantyn Yefymenko to draw up a program to prevent accidents at railway crossings.

"Today’s tragedy at an unmanned crossing demands that the government take comprehensive measures to minimize risks at such places. I order the interior minister and the transport and communications minister to draw up a program to prevent such accidents," he said, while opening a government meeting on Tuesday.

Azarov noted that the program should include upgrading such crossings with automatic gates, and, if necessary, with security guards.

The government is also planning to raise requirements on the physical and mental condition of drivers involved in passenger transportation, he added.

"One simply cannot economize on people’s lives," Azarov said.
