Donetsk Region Governor Serhiy Taruta, who earlier left Donetsk and is currently residing in Mariupol, has announced his readiness to help establish a battalion to defense Mariupol.

“I am ready to help in every possible way as far as the establishment of a battalion of the defenders of Mariupol is concerned,” Taruta said in a message to Mariupol residents published on the city administration’s website.

Taruta also thanked the local population “for the example of civil position” shown by residents of the entire region during a pro-Ukrainian and anti-war rally on Aug. 28.

As reported, on late Aug. 28, several thousands of Mariupol residents held a rally in the town downtown against invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
