Participants of an inter-department meeting on the implementation of the action plan for visa liberalization with the EU have determined the agencies in charge of the fulfillment of Ukraine's unaccomplished tasks under the first phase of the EU-Ukraine Visa Liberalization Action Plan, as well as outlined the deadlines for their completion.

The press service of Ukrainian Vice Premier Kostiantyn Gryshchenko said on Wednesday, Jan.16 that the vice premier held an inter-departmental meeting on January 16 by order of the head of the country’s government.

Representatives of the Justice Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the Culture Ministry, the State Migration Service, and other executive agencies participated in the meeting.

“The president of Ukraine personally oversees the implementation by Ukraine of the action plan for visa liberalization with the EU. He considers lifting of visa barriers for Ukrainians to travel to Europe a key task for the authorities,” Gryshchenko said.

The vice premier called on the agencies to speed up their work on some laws envisaged by the action plan and focus on the promotion of these documents in the Verkhovna Rada.

“Today all of the parliamentary forces speak about their commitment to the course towards European integration. In the first days of the second session of the Verkhovna Rada, they will have a good opportunity to prove this in practice by passing the necessary bills for visa liberalization as soon as possible,” Gryshchenko said.

He also said he hoped that the European side will closely and effectively cooperate with Ukraine’s government in the process of the action plan’s implementation.

“We hope that our partners in the EU think that the cancellation of visas for Ukrainians will symbolize the restoration of the historical unity of a larger European home,” Gryshchenko said.
