Over 7,000 Kyiv heat consumers (including houses, social sphere facilities) could be left without heating and hot water supplies in the coming first autumn frosts due to the fact that Kyivtransgaz cut gas pressure for combined heat and power plant five and combined heat and power plant six, the press service of public joint-stock company Kyivenergo has reported.

“On Thursday, October 3, at 1400 the trunk gas pipelines department Kyivtransgaz under an order of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy cut the gas pressure at combined heat and power plant five and combined heat and power plant six… At present, the gas pressure reduction did not affect the operation of the plants – the two plants continue operating… However, due to the expected fall in temperatures and frosts the required parameters of heat will not be observed in the future. Over 7,000 consumers will be left without hot water supply and heat,” the company said.

The gas pressure was reduced as Kyivenergo owed Hr 2.1 billion to Naftogaz Ukrainy for gas consumed. The company said that the debt is linked to the debts of the budget to compensate for the difference in the tariffs (Hr 1.588 billion) and debts of consumers for heat and power to Kyivenergo (Hr 2.263 billion).

As reported, heat and power plant five and combined heat and power plant six service consumers in Desniansky, Obolonsky, Pechersky, Holosiyivsky, Shevchenkivsky and a part of Darnytsky districts of Kyiv.

As of early October 3, 2013, Kyivenergo supplied heat to only 17.6 percent of residential buildings, 93 percent of kindergartens, 48 percent of schools and 82 percent of hospitals.

Kyivenergo operates almost all power facilities located in Kyiv, except for Darnytsia combined heat and power plant.

Ukraine’s largest vertically integrated energy holding DTEK owns 72.33 percent of Kyivenergo. Another 25 percent plus one share stake of the company is owned by Energy Company of Ukraine.
