Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Oleksandr Tolstanov has said that patients with high blood pressure will receive the necessary medicines for free, the Health Ministry's press service reported on Monday.

He announced this while visiting a number of pharmacies in Zhytomyr, Rivne and Ternopil regions on the instruction of Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Raisa Bohatyriova.

“One of the tasks set for the Health Ministry by the president is the introduction of reference prices with their further reimbursement, i.e. the compensation by the state of funds spent by patients on medicines. First and foremost, the issue concerns medicines for people with hypertension, as hypertension is not only one of the most common illnesses among Ukrainians, but it also has very serious consequences,” Tolstanov said, while speaking to pharmacists and visitors to a pharmacy in Korostyshiv (Zhytomyr region).

He said that reimbursement would be introduced from September 1. He also added that preparatory work was currently being conducted and that the average-market prices of medicines for people with high blood pressure were being set.
