You're reading: Health Ministry: Outbreak of cholera contained in Mariupol

Thirteen people with intestinal infection symptoms were hospitalized and underwent medical examination in Mariupol, Donetsk region, over the past 24 hours, the press service for the Ukrainian Health Ministry has reported.

Cholera has been confirmed in four of the patients by lab tests, the press service has reported.

"All patients are receiving the needed medical assistance. There is no threat to their heath," the press service has reported.

There is information that the source of the infection was fish from the Sea of Azov.

Swimming in the sea, fishing, and selling fish are now prohibited in Mariupol. Control has been established over objects that are at risk for epidemic.

New patients are being examined and sanitary and education work, especially among children, is being done.

"Lab tests of environmental objects did not reveal cholera. A considerable number of samples are sill being tested," the press service has reported.
