You're reading: Hearing of Indylo case moved to Aug. 14, key witness to be taken to court by force

Desniansky District Court in Kyiv has postponed the hearing of a case on charges brought against police officers regarding their involvement in the death of student Ihor Indylo until 11 a.m. on Aug. 14 due to the absence of a key witness, the press service of the Kyiv prosecutor's office told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

The witness, a suspect who was in the Shevchenkivske district department of police on the night of Indylo’s death, again failed to attend the hearing.

“Since the testimony of this witness is important for the judicial process, the public prosecutor filed a petition to take this witness to court by force. The court satisfied this petition,” the press service reported.

Thus, the prosecutor’s office said, this witness will be taken to the next court hearing by force, and three other witnesses were also invited.

As reported, 20-year-old student Ihor Indylo died from a fractured skull and internal bleeding after being arrested and interrogated by two police officers at the Shevchenkivske district department of police in Kyiv in May 2010. Immediately, a criminal case was opened against the police officers in question.

The case had already been considered in court, but was sent back for a new trial.
