The Honorary Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany could be opened in Kharkiv before the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, Consul General of Germany in Donetsk Klaus Zillikens has said.

According to him, a candidate for the post of honorary consul has been defined. Not it is being agreed with the Cabinet of Ministers. "Now we are waiting for consent from the Ukrainian government. We are optimistic and hope that the future honorary consul will start working here before Euro 2012, because we received signals from the Ukrainian side that it is very interested in the opening of an honorary consulate," he said at a press conference in Kharkiv.

He noted that he could not name the future honorary consul. "This is wrong from the diplomatic and legal points of view. Not everyone could agree to this candidacy," said the consul general.
