Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko has ordered Ukraine's Embassy in the United Kingdom to contact the Organizing Committee of the London 2012 Olympic Games and ask it to correct mistakes in biographical details of several Russian athletes born in Ukraine.
"I have just instructed our Embassy in the United Kingdom to contact the Olympics Organizing Committee in order to get them to correct this mistake," Gryshchenko said on his Twitter page.
The Ukrainian minister also criticized the way information about these athletes was presented, including a reference to "Ukraine Region."
"The word 'region' is clearly not needed. It is a mistake even from the point of view of English grammar. We will find out who made this mistake. Let them correct it," he said.
According to news reports, information posted on the 2012 Summer Olympic Games website detailing the biographies of several Russian athletes mistakenly described the town or region where they were born in Ukraine as Russian territory.
The Ukrainian Olympic Delegation's Headquarters earlier forwarded an official request to the Organizing Committee of the London 2012 Olympic Games, asking it to urgently correct mistakes in biographical details published on the event's official website.
