You're reading: Hungarian prime minister urges revising sanctions against Russia

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has spoken for changing EU sanctions against Russia which in his mind are more damaging to EU member states rather than Russia.

Orban in an interview with Hungary’s Kossuth Radio on Aug.15 promised
to do his best to change the EU sanction policy which in his opinion
was not well thought out enough but noted that he needs partners for
this.

Central European media noted that Czech President Milos Zeman and
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico earlier criticized anti-Russian
sanctions.

Orban thinks that Brussels should not only compensate the damage to
producers but also to drastically change the nature of the sanctions.

The EU by adopting current sanctions against Russia is shooting itself in the foot, he said.
