You're reading: ICRC claims not being guaranteed full safety in east Ukraine

The warring sides in Ukraine have only provided safety guarantees for a small advance group of officers from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) that will inspect the purported itinerary of the Russian humanitarian convoy but the main group has yet to receive such guarantees in full.

“This morning a group travelled to the east of Ukraine, and we had safety guarantees for this small group,” the spokeswoman for the ICRC delegation in Russia, Belarus and Moldova, Viktoriya Zotikova, told Interfax on Aug. 20th.

“This is an advance group which has gone to examine the situation. Its conclusions will affect our decision on how safe the situation is,” she said.

Concurrently, she stressed that “so far we have no full picture of safety guarantees for the whole convoy.”
