You're reading: IMF’s requirements for Ukraine unacceptable, says Russian ambassador to Ukraine

Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov said that the requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Ukraine in resumption of cooperation are unacceptable.

“Ukraine today absolutely fairly believes that cooperation with the IMF could be restored. We see that cooperation with the IMF will be linked to a number of unpopular decisions, which Ukraine is to make, and this is absolutely unacceptable,” Zurabov told reporters late on Friday, Nov. 1.

He said that the situation in the Ukrainian economy is difficult: stagnation is seen. The Russian ambassador said that in the tense situation Ukraine receives credits from Russian banks, and representatives of Ukrainian business receive discounts for the price of Russian gas.

“Of course, we don’t refuse to help our strategic partner,” the diplomat said.

He added that Russia expects that Ukraine will present adequate responsibility in this situation.
