The final stage of the Ukrainian anti-terrorist operation is unfolding in the village of Starovarvarivka, Oleksandrivka district of Donetsk region, Dmytro Tymchuk, coordinator of the Kyiv-based Information Resistance group, has said.

“According to operative information possessed by the Information Resistance group, the final stage of the Ukrainian military operation against pro-Russian terrorists is beginning in the area of the populated center of Starovarvarivka, 30 kilometers from Kramatorsk. The populated center where a terrorist group is located is fully encircled by the Ukrainian military,” he wrote on his page on Facebook on May 15.

“The terrorists are defending themselves in residential buildings where locals also stay. The administration of this operation is taking measures to adjust the actions of the security forces to prevent civilians from being hurt during the neutralization of the militants,” he said.

Tymchuk said that some Ukrainian troops had been wounded, but no one had been killed.

“Several terrorists were eliminated, there is no precise information on the number of those eliminated,” he said.

The Ukrainian media reported in the early hours of May 14 that fighting was going on in the outskirts of the village of Starovarvarivka. The Ukrainian military tried to eliminate a group of armed people who were in the forest. The media assumed that the people were the ones who ambushed Ukrainian paratroopers in the Sloviansk district on May 13 (six Ukrainian troops were then killed).

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry press service has confirmed the information on the fighting, saying that some Ukrainian troops have been wounded and none of them have been killed.

Starovarvarivka, according to the latest census of 2001, has a population of 849.
