You're reading: Interim commission to be set up to probe into activist Sashko Bily death

An ad hoc interim commission will be set up in parliament to probe into the situation around the death of Right Sector coordinator Oleksandr Muzychko, also known as Sashko Bily, independent Member of Parliament (MP) Yuriy Derevianko said.

“Truth (in Bily’s death) should be established. Thus, an interim commission will be set up in parliament on March 28 to probe into the case with obligatory participation of Right Sector representatives,” he said when addressing Right Sector protesters who were participating in a rally outside the Verkhovna Rada’s building on March 27 evening.

Following talks with MPs, member of the Right Sector political council Oleh Odnorozhenko announced that the demands that had been put forth at that moment had been satisfied. “Therefore we’ll gather outside the Verkhovna Rada building tomorrow and continue monitoring the situation at the Rada,” he told those present.

One of the Right Sector’s leaders Andriy Bondarenko also said that the rally held outside the parliament’s building on Thursday evening to demand the dismissal of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov would continue on March 28 morning.

“Our official position is that we’re against an attack at the Verkhovna Rada. What you’ve seen here today was of warning character. Our reaction has been provoked by the Interior Minister headed by Avakov,” he said during on the Shuster Live TV program.

He confirmed that the Right Sector would continue the rally outside the parliament’s building on March 28 morning.

“This will be a peaceful rally that will demonstrate our position against a particular person. This rally is neither against our country, nor against the parliament. This is the action against the person who’s unable to perform his professional duties as he fails to control his subordinates,” Bondarenko said.

The Right Sector’s press service said on its Web site that the picketing of the parliament was a warning action. “The Right Sector is against the seizure of the Verkhovna Rada’s building. During this event, Right Sector activists were holding back those people who were outraged at Minister Avakov’s unlawful actions,” the press service said.

Participants in the rally outside the parliament are now leaving the site.

As was reported, about 1,500 people were picketing the parliament’s building on Thursday evening demanding the dismissal of Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.

Earlier, Ukraine’s first deputy interior minister Volodymyr Yevdokymov said initially that Muzychko was fatally wounded during his arrest in the early hours of March 25 because he opened fire at the police.

Yevdokymov said later that the fatal heart injury was caused by Muzychko’s own weapon.

The Right Sector demanded an immediate resignation of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and the arrest of all officers from the Sokil (Falcon) special police force who played part in Muzychko’s death.

Avakov said he was threatened by the Right Sector but “accepts the challenge” and his position towards those violating public order will be fairly tough.
