The subdivisions of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes have uncovered almost 7,000 economic crimes since the beginning of 2012, acting Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko has said.

“It’s important to prevent illegal encroachments on the state budget. Such a task has been set by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The subdivisions of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes have uncovered almost 7,000 crimes of this category since the beginning of the year,” the Interior Ministry’s media liaisons office quoted Zakharchenko as saying.

He noted that losses as part of the completed criminal cases were about UAH 2 billion, of which about 90% has been reimbursed.

Zakharchenko said that another priority outlined by the head of state at a recent all-Ukrainian meeting was the protection of minors from the effects of crime.
