International election observers to make sure Ukraine adheres to European standards

International observers at the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine will have an opportunity to make sure that the election process will be held strictly according to the legislation and with respect to European standards, a member of the Regions Party, Ivan Popesku, has said.

"The president, the government, the Foreign Ministry, the ruling coalition and the Regions Party invited observers from various international organizations and countries in order that they come to Ukraine and confirm that the election process in the country is held in line with European standards, we adhere to the election law and we are ready to prove that Ukraine is a European state," Popesku said.

"Representatives of nongovernmental organizations and international official organizations have already been registered by the Central Election Commission (CEC). For example, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, as well as other countries, has already registered its observers. There are applications from Hungary, the Czech Republic and other European countries that will be represented by their own missions or in the membership of the OSCE mission, or with the PACE mission. This shows their interest to the election process in Ukraine. Since further European integration of countries depends on elections, we hope the elections will get the highest evaluation. And after that we will sign the Association Agreement, including terms on a free trade area, as well as on the liberalization of visa travel," he said.

"Therefore, we are happy that international observers will come, as they will make sure that the election process is fair in Ukraine and that Ukraine is ready to adhere to European and international standards," Popesku noted.
