A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is to arrive in Ukraine on June 24 to conduct the first review of the Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) after which the fund will decide on the disbursal of the second tranche of the SBA loan, Director of the IMF's Communications Department Jerry Rice said at a press briefing in Washington on Thursday.
“The date of the next mission is already set, and I can say that the
mission is planed to begin work on June 24 in Kyiv and to continue
working for about two weeks,” he said.
When commenting the appointment of Valeriya Gontareva as governor of
the National Bank of Ukraine, Rice said: “The central bank’s
independence is very important to the IMF in Ukraine and in all other
countries. We look forward to working with the new governor, Valeriya
Gontareva.”
At the same time he declined to comment on whether the move represents a challenge to the central bank’s independence.
“I wouldn’t have a comment beyond that. I just have said that central
bank independence is something we take very seriously – it is important
for us,” he said.
