You're reading: Italy promises to proceed with sanctions against Russia until Minsk commitments met

Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni in a course of the talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Rome has confirmed intentions of the Italian government to continue EU sanctions policy towards Russia until the later fully fulfills the Minsk deals, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokesman said.

“Regarding discussion of the complex issues on implementation of the Minsk deals, Ukrainian foreign minister informed the interlocutor on constant violations of ceasefire by militants and Russian military and shelling the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and residential areas,” the report said.

For his part, Gentiloni promised to provide Ukraine a comprehensive support adding that further serious structural reforms are important for the country.

The interlocutors confirmed the intentions to restore the work of joint Ukrainian-Italian Council on Economic, Industrial and Financial Cooperation and scheduled its next meeting in October 2015.

Speaking on the prospects for ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement by the Italian parliament, Italy assured that this issue would be put on agenda of the parliament’s work and would be considered by the Italian parliamentarians within next month.
