Ivano-Frankivsk, May 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ivano-Frankivsk City Council has awarded honorary citizen titles to Stepan Bandera, the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), and Roman Shukhevych, the commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

The city council took a relevant decision at a special meeting on Thursday. All 49 deputies who attended the meeting and city Head Viktor Anushkevychus voted for the decision.

Secretary of the city council, Vasyl Boichuk, said the deputies took this decision on the basis of addresses received from 33 regions and city non-governmental and political organizations, as well as 35 deputies of the city council.

Before taking this decision, the city council had amended Article 37 of the regulations of the city’s territorial community and introduced the rank of honorary citizen of Ivano-Frankivsk city.

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council includes 60 deputies: 22 deputies from the Our Ukraine Party, 17 from the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, 14 from the Ukrainian People’s Party, four from the Regions Party, and three from the Pora Party.
